QHSE Engineer – Head Office & Manufacturing Facility, Southampton, UK

Blade Dynamics is looking to expand its team in the UK and for its offshore blade development program. Initially based at our Southampton Head Office & Manufacturing facility but will be expected to work from other company sites on the south coast of England and the Isle of Wight as projects require, looking for a Quality and Health & Safety Engineer (HSE) to deliver on the following areas:

Environment, Health & Safety

  • Identify and implement HSE best practices at manufacturing site and office.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), conduct training and ensure effective implementation for SOP’s.
  • Work with external agencies (sub-contractors, Government, Local council, etc.) to comply with HSE objectives.
  • Identify and implement audit plan and subsequent follow up actions.
  • Drive in establishing a dashboard of key HSE metrics – KPI identification, recording, trend mapping & reporting.
  • Implement safety best practices from other industries / sites- internal and external.

Quality

  • Ensure implementation of incoming raw materials check, traceability and supplier quality management.
  • Establish in-process and product quality framework at manufacturing facility.
  • Drive in establishing a dashboard of key quality metrics – KPI identification, recording, trend mapping & reporting.
  • Establish continuous improvement strategies for metrics.
  • Implement Quality best practices from other industries / sites- internal and external.
  • Ensure implementation of processes as per ISO framework.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Candidate must have extensive experience in driving HSE in manufacturing organization.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE best practices, governmental compliance, RIDDOR, COSHH and OSHA is desired.
  • Candidate should be able to draft and implement procedures (HSE and quality) from scratch.
  • Strong organizational skills, independent drive and rigorous follow up skills desired.
  • Experience in manufacturing organization: aerospace, automotive, composites or other preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO framework is desired.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with sub-contractors and external agencies would be desirable.

Loads and Aerodynamics Engineer – Head Office, Southampton, UK

Blade Dynamics is looking to expand its team at the Southampton Head Office in the UK with a Loads and Aerodynamics Engineer who is keen on working on innovative wind turbine blade technology.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • M Eng, M Sc or PhD in relevant field of engineering or physics
  • Knowledge of wind turbines, loads and aerodynamics and relevant experience in the area (industry / PhD)
  • Experience in load calculation and analysis for wind turbines (with e.g. Bladed, Haw2c or Focus)
  • Knowledge of wind turbine control technology and controller tuning
  • Analytic, structured and creative approach to work
  • Programming experience, e.g. Python, Matlab, C++
  • (Proven) good reporting and strong communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary team (structures, composites, aerodynamics)
  • Basic understanding of structures

Finite Element Engineer – Head Office, Southampton, UK

Blade Dynamics is looking for an FE engineer to join their engineering team in Southampton, UK. The successful candidate will work within an established team of world class engineers and materials scientists to design, develop, manufacture and test the next generation of wind turbine blades.

Candidates will be working on various interesting projects as part of the experienced engineering team, focusing on FE modeling, tooling development and automation.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience in structural design using advanced composite materials.
  • Proven experience of using FEA software (Abaqus is preferred, although other software such as Ansys, Nastran will be considered).
  • Experience of tool development, macros, automation and python coding.
  • Excellent understanding of structural design practices and principles.
  • Ability to perform classical hand calculations and develop spread sheets for design and analysis purposes.
  • Ability to approach engineering tasks from first principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills (gathering, organizing and analysing data; drawing conclusions).
  • Some experience using CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CATIA.

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is an advantage:

  • Structural testing.
  • Structural dynamics.
  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis.
