Summer Internship – NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, New Orleans, LA, USA

Blade Dynamics is looking for interns for the summer of 2014 to collaborate with our technical team in New Orleans, Louisiana. The successful candidates will work within an established team of world class engineers and materials scientists to develop design tools for the next generation of wind turbine blades. His/her role includes but is not limited to Python scripting to generate finite element models in Abaqus for the wind turbine blade design.

Qualifications

Composite Engineers – Southampton, UK

Blade Dynamics is looking for a Composite Engineer to join their manufacturing team in Southampton, UK. The successful candidate will work within a team of world class composites engineers to manufacture the next generation of wind turbine blades. The role will involve working effectively as part of a team and managing specific tasks, in both manufacturing and development stages of the ongoing projects. Structural Engineers – NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, New Orleans, LA USA

Blade Dynamics is looking for structural engineers to join their technical team in New Orleans, Louisiana. The successful candidates will work within an established team of world class engineers and materials scientists to design, develop, manufacture and test the next generation of wind turbine blades. The role will involve managing specific project tasks, or a whole project, from the initial conceptual design through prototyping, testing, certification and production. Candidates will have at least a M.S. and two years of post-graduate experience or a B.S. and five years of experience in a related industry (automotive, aerospace, high performance marine or wind blade industry), in a structural engineering role.

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of structural design principles and practices.
  • Experience in structural design using advanced composite materials.
  • Ability to perform classical hand calculations and develop spreadsheets for design and analysis purposes.
  • Proven experience using FEA (Abaqus, Ansys, Nastran, etc).
  • Ability to approach engineering tasks from first principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills (gathering, organizing and analyzing data; drawing conclusions).
  • Some experience using CAD tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be considered as a plus:

Test Engineer – Southampton, UK

Blade Dynamics is looking for test engineers to join their technical team in Southampton, UK. The successful candidates will work within an established team of world class engineers and materials scientists to design, develop, manufacture and test the next generation of wind turbine blades. The role will involve testing of wind turbine blades, hubs and subcomponents.

Your role will require specifying and managing of static and accelerated fatigue tests, liaison with the testing and certification organizations, test supervision and results analysis and reporting. You will be also responsible for ensuring HS&E, by carrying out tests in a controlled way, assessing and mitigating potential risks.

Candidates will have a degree in wind, aerospace, mechanical, structural or civil engineering.

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of structural mechanics including analytical and numerical methods (FEA).
  • Ability to perform classical hand calculations and develop spreadsheets for design and analysis purposes.
  • Some experience using CAD tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.
  • Understanding of experimental stress analysis (traditional strain gauges, displacement sensing, fiber optics and DIC (digital image correlation).
  • Ability to travel to testing labs to oversee test setup and progress.

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be considered as a plus:
